Useless Desires debut album Raincoat set for release
on Tuesday, February 10, 2009
San
Francisco, CA December 29, 2008 Since July of
2007, alternative rock band Useless Desires have poured their Road
Rage, the endless desire for a soul mate and the nerve to face this
imperfect world into a boiling pot of thirteen songs. Their long
awaited debut album Raincoat is set for release on February
10, 2009.
For
many bands including Useless Desires, recording is a long arduous
process. I came into the studio with thirteen songs that were
written on an acoustic guitar but needed some body and edge to them,
says singer/songwriter Dave Shear. The sounds were always
in my head, but it took some time, creative juices and help from
bassist Curt Yagi to siphon them out. Dave has been writing
songs for years, many of which are on the Raincoat release.
The fuel that kept me going with this project is that I really
believe in the songs and didnt want to cut corners.
The end result is thirteen lyrically strong songs, each of which
has their own uniqueness. While the overall sound is alternative
rock, by no means does each of the songs sound alike. From the mellow
grooves of the opening track Amnesia to the circus atmosphere
of Big Top, each song takes the listener in a different
direction. The common theme with the album Raincoat
is catchy songs that draw emotions.
Curt
Yagi, the bands bass player, spent many hours at the studio helping
to mold this album together. Dave opened the door to me to
add my input and creative feedback to his songs, which made the
process exciting. The song Road Rage would never sound as good without
my hand claps, guaranteed, says Curt with a smile. Lead guitarist,
James Jarrett found the recording process a breeze. Ive
been playing Daves songs for years, so I know how his strange
yet predictable mind works. If Dave didnt like one of my parts,
he would give the thumbs down. After I kindly gave him the finger,
he would tell me what to play.
