Reviews Useless Desires's Debut Album "Raincoat"
December

"Useless
Desires bridles a variety of influences and themes, flexibly,
intuitively - a South-of-Market inspired pop-punk time capsule
of sorts. Think Hotel Utah meets Mission Bay with a dash of MOMA
- and you've got it! Songs like 'RoadRage' give rise to a living,
breathing, modern prometheus - complete with echoes of 60's bebop,
CBGB's three-piece punk, and a 55mph (with the windows rolled
all the way down) version of grunge rasp. All in 3:30 flat! Similarly,
'Amnesia' delivers a singer/songwriter immediacy within the folds
of 80's Manchester Factory edge, and the melodic/acoustic "Imperfect
World" reminds us of exactly how to use a broken heart. Can
we say 24 hour Party People? I say yes!"
